India: National Human Rights Commission Seeks Report on Adverse Impacts of Farmers’ Protest

Following multiple complains received on the Farmer’s Protest, stating issues ranging across COVID protocol breaches, affecting transport for over 9 months, and detrimental effects to businesses including MSMEs around protest sites, the National Human Rights Commission has sought reports on the same. There is a claim that the agitating farmers at the protest site had broken the corona protocols. There is also a claim that the residents are not being able to leave their homes due to the routes being blocked. The Commission has issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Government of U.P., Chief Secretary, Government of Haryana, Chief Secretary, Government of Rajasthan, Chief Secretary, Government of NCT of Delhi, Director Generals of Police, U.P., Haryana, Rajasthan and Commissioner of Police, Delhi calling upon them to submit reports on Action Taken.
